Please read this information from the Oak Park Police Department about a safety mission in NW Oak Park.
"The Oak Park Police Department has recently received several complaints regarding motorists utilizing the south alley of North Ave, between Forest and Kenilworth, as a "cut thru" to avoid traffic back ups during morning and afternoon rush hours.
"All motorists are reminded that the use of alleys in this manner is prohibited. Over the next several days, Oak Park Police Officers will be monitoring these alleys and enforcing the restriction."
Warning: the police will ticket for driving from one side street to the next (known as "thru traffic"), as well as for speeding and failure to stop.
The village also is responding to a petition for temporary speed bumps and stop signs in the same section of the east-west alley just south of North Ave., from Kenilworth to Forest Avenues. There have been many near-accidents due to speeding commuters.
If your North Ave. business is located in Oak Park, east of Oak Park Ave.--or if you live nearby (on a 1200 block)--have you noticed similar problems in this alley? Please let us know your thoughts by sending a message to:jalexander@n-ave.com.
