I grew up in a fairly monochromatic town. I attended graduate school in South Florida where the Caribbean population dominated all aspects of food and culture. I worked at an HBCU for a few years which affirmed my desire to never return to any monochromatic community.
Fast forward several years. I live in Oak Park, and I work for the OPRF Chamber of Commerce. I am surrounded daily by some of the most diverse, most successful people in the community. Many are female entrepreneurs, many are BIPOC business owners, many have personal and professional stories of resilience and strength. I am proud to be a part of an organization that consciously diversifies its Board of Directors, wholeheartedly supports BIPOC businesses, and welcomes them to join our Chamber family.
October is Chamber Membership Month and Hispanic Heritage Month. As we celebrate everything these rich cultures have shared with us, I want to thank all of the LatinX business owners and professionals who contribute daily to our local community.
